Cohiba, Cuba's most famous brand, was founded in 1966. The story began in 1963, when Fidel Castro tasted a cigar from the torcedor Eduardo Rivieira. The latter was immediately recruited to produce cigars at El Laguito, in the suburbs of Havana, reserved for prominent government members, including Ernesto "Che" Guevara, as well as foreign diplomats.

By 1967, the brand began to develop, but it was not marketed internationally until 1982, with the Panetela, Corona Especial, and Lancero formats. In 1989, these were joined by the Robusto, Exquisito, and Esplendido formats, thus forming the Linea Clasica. Cohiba cigars are the only ones to benefit from a third fermentation of their tobacco leaves, thereby perfecting their taste. Today, the brand continues to enchant aficionados and the general public alike.
