In 1946, Zino Davidoff created a line of cigars inspired by the world of wine. The blend was to be chosen based on the soil and climate in which the tobacco grew, and in the same way that the finest red wines are blended from three different main grape varieties, these cigars were to contain three different tobaccos for the filler. The line we know today as Davidoff Grand Cru originates from this wine-cigar analogy. The Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection is Davidoff's first Grand Cru cigar in a figurado format and contains filler tobacco aged in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask.
Davidoff’s master blenders have added a Dominican San Vicente tobacco to the filler blend. This tobacco is a finer leaf that can absorb more wine aromas from the cask and helps the cigar resemble the character of a red wine – a combination that caresses the palate like wine swirled in a glass. The extraordinary experience begins with pronounced notes of citrus. As the filler tobaccos take over, the taste evolves toward pepper and toasted nuts. Creamy notes contribute to the cigar’s remarkable balance. In the second third, the Dominican San Vicente Seco, aged in wine casks, moves to the fore. Aromas of black cherries dominate and are complemented by oak wood and earth. The grand finale of the Diademas Finas is characterized by pronounced notes of nuts and increasing intensity. Additional aromas of fresh spices and vanilla complete the Grand Cru experience.
