Hoyo de Monterrey is renowned for its delicate cigars with a Cuban character, appreciated by both novices and experienced smokers alike. Founded in 1850 by José Gener with the brand La Escepción, it grew rapidly. In 1865, Gener acquired the Hoyo de Monterrey farm in San Juan y Martinez, establishing the iconic brand. Upon his death in 1900, it was the largest factory in Cuba. Shortly after, it was passed on to Ramon Fernandez and Fernando Palicio, who already owned the Punch and Belinda brands. Recognized as a "true institution," Hoyo de Monterrey is also famous for having produced the prestigious Davidoff cigars in the 1940s, bearing the names of Bordeaux châteaux.
