The Piedra family immigrated to Cuba in the 1880s from Asturias, Spain. They settled near Santa Clara, in the heart of the Remedios region, where tobacco cultivation dates back to the 16th century, and began producing cigars.
José L. Piedra cigars are made from tobaccos grown in Remedios, using the traditional Tripa Corta technique, entirely by hand (Totalmente a Mano).
