Montecristo No. 1
Montecristo No. 1
As is traditional for the finest Cuban cigars, Montecristo No. 1s are entirely handmade. The tobacco used for the filler, binder, and wrapper comes exclusively from the Vuelta Abajo region, renowned for providing superior-quality leaves.
This long-filler cigar, composed of whole leaves, offers an assertive strength with aromas of cedar and tea. From the first third, hints of citrus, fruit, nuts, chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee, and spices enrich this palette, creating perfect harmony. In the second third, the fruity aromas become dominant, while the woody and earthy notes intensify.
Montecristo is one of the most famous Habanos brands in the world. Founded in 1935 in Havana by Alonso Menendez, it takes its name from the hero of Alexandre Dumas's novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, which was regularly read to the torcedores (cigar rollers). Originally, the range was limited to five cigars numbered 1 to 5, but it has since expanded to meet the expectations of the most demanding aficionados, from the majestic Montecristo A to more compact formats. Among the recent additions, the Montecristo Edmundo and Petit Edmundo, launched in 2004 and 2007 respectively, have particularly distinguished themselves. In 2009, the brand introduced the Open line, a milder and more modern range.
