Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers, the history of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano dates back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame at the beginning of the 20th century under the direction of Don 'Pepin' Rodriguez, a talented promoter who was one of the first to recognize the impact of cigar bands. At its peak, no fewer than 20,000 different bands were used in production.

Winston Churchill became a devoted admirer of the brand. Following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name was not only featured on a band, but was also used to designate the brand's most famous size: the Romeo y Julieta Churchill.

In the 21st century, two new sizes were added under this name. The first, the Short Churchill, a Robusto format that was missing from the range, was introduced in 2006. The second, launched during the 21st Festival del Habano in 2010, is the Wide Churchill, which features a 55 ring gauge, reflecting the trend among enthusiasts for vitolas with a larger circumference.

The balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone makes Romeo y Julieta a classic medium-bodied Habano.

Today, Romeo y Julieta is as well-known worldwide as ever and offers the widest range of long-filler sizes of any Habano brand.
